As the name suggests, mood rings are rings that indicate the different moods of the wearer by showing different colors. The history of mood rings dates back to the late 1960s. The first mood ring was the brainchild of Marvin Wernick who was a jewelry designer. While accompanying his doctor friend who used a thermotropic material to gauge the temperature of his patient, the idea of the mood ring struck Wernick. Mood rings gained maximum popularity in the 70s when hippie culture was at its pinnacle. Mood rings began to be worn in many different forms; finger rings and toe rings being the most popular forms. They were also available in the avatars of necklaces, navel rings etc. Mood rings were popular with both the sexes and became a symbol of youthful exuberance.
